the geometric poetry neck sculpture is a new three-dimensional line drawing in metal.
a multitude of explorations playing with volume, space and movement in brass or even garden wire maquettes are extensively worn to find the perfect balance on the body.
yet, the elements of the new silver piece are then composed in spontaneous free flowing movements to achieve a rich expressiveness, directness and liveliness. this fluid process often leads to unexpected outcomes: W341 one of the larger shapes of the neck sculpture can be worn as an arm piece. the emerging arm piece intrigues by its multitude of constellations in which it can sculpt itself around the wearer’s arm.
the artistic practice of ute decker explores themes closely related to the practice of zen calligraphy, where the calligrapher must concentrate her energy and mastery in a state of ‘no-mind’ and be fluid in execution. the resulting calligraphy creates a rich abstraction yet reference to meaning, reference to tradition, skill and practice - yet spontaneity & individual expression.
