Dear Jewelry Friends,
Ute Decker is one of the most extraordinary metalsmiths of our time, described as “the master of the sculptural jewel” for her sweeping scale and wearable artistic creations. Soon after the Victoria & Albert Museum in London acquired a ring made by Ute, Curator Clare Phillips told The New York Times, "Like contemporary art, it’s jewelry that makes you think." This month, you are invited to see Ute's designs and craftsmanship up close, in a private studio visit with the artist when she visits NYC.
During our afternoon rendezvous, Ute will speak more about her creative philosophy, her process and how a background in political economics and journalism led her to become a pioneer for ethical jewellery - long before it became fashionable. You will be able to preview a selection of Ute’s jewels, available for viewing, before they head to the Museum of Art & Design's MAD for Jewelry event later in the week. Excitingly, Ute will bring some special pieces exclusively for our Gem X event including some early maquettes.
To ensure the intimacy of this event, headcount is extremely limited. Reservations are taken on a first come first served basis.
