Like many of the best projects, this article began with a chance
conversation between JHT editor Kirstin Kennedy and London
based jeweller and brooch connoisseur Ute Decker. Fans of Ute’s
work will be familiar with its sculptural qualities, but what caught
Kirstin’s eye was the little gold brooch pinned to Ute’s back, a
brave place to wear a jewel (fig. 1).
